Learn to become Tenacious
Have you ever felt like giving up on your goals? I have. It may be surprising to hear it from someone who is a business coach motivating a lot of entrepreneurs but there’s the truth.
There have been plenty of times that I’ve felt like walking away from my goals, giving up on my entrepreneurial dreams, and returning to a simpler life. It definitely would be the easy option, however, it wouldn’t be the right option (in my mind).
Why do I keep going? Some would say stupidity, but I say tenacity. A tenacity to achieve my goal.
According to the dictionary, tenacity means ‘to grip something firmly’ and ‘being very determined’.
I believe that I have a firm grip on my goals, and nothing can shake these from my grasp.
Do you feel the same way?
Not many people have clear goals, and even less have the tenacity to hold onto these goals until achievement. Sadly, when it comes to the pursuit of goals, most people don’t have the resolve required to finish the task they started.
Below are a few ways that you can build your tenacity:
- Understand why you’re wanting to achieve the goal you’ve set. When your reason is strong it will help tighten your grip.
- Ensure goal clarity. There’s a science to setting goals, and clarity is essential. To assist with goal clarity, you can adopt the SMART goal setting methodology.
- Visualise your goal daily. Constantly remind yourself what you’re working towards and why you’re doing it.
- Work on your commitment. There’s a difference between being interested and committed. Most people are interested in achieving their goal, however, successful people are truly committed.
- Surround yourself with tenacious people. Jim Rohn famously said, “You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Are these people tenacious? If not, find people who are.
- Remind yourself that thoughts become things. If you think you can’t, you won’t.
- Practice resourcefulness. Don’t quit in the face of adversity, instead ask yourself, “Is there another way?”
John C. Maxwell sums up tenacious people perfectly:
“Tenacious people don’t rely on luck, fate, or destiny for their success. And when conditions become difficult, they keep working.”
In summary, learn to become tenacious towards your goal. Do whatever you can, and don’t give up.
